We have partnered with 4VI (formerly Tourism Vancouver Island) to work together to demonstrate new approaches in the global tourism industry that address the impacts of climate change and inequity.
As part of this partnership, we are working as an extension to the 4VI team to deliver on global leadership and local impact. This includes acting as a ‘critical friend’ to the 4VI team, supporting them to implement solutions that enhance their new business model as a social enterprise and ensure that tourism is a force for good on Vancouver Island. The partnership has specific aims under the three pillars of:
- Innovation – creating new systems-based solutions to the biggest challenges in travel
- Investment – securing new sources of funding for these initiatives
- Impact – developing tools to measure and report on our work
Key initiatives include the continued development of a set of sustainable impact key performance indicators (KPI) for the Vancouver Island region and building a business case based on these new measures of success.
Using the Travel Foundation’s ‘optimal value (impact) framework’, we will also build an in-depth understanding of the value of tourism for communities on Vancouver Island across economic, environmental, societal and cultural parameters. The analysis will then support 4VI to minimize risks and negative impacts from tourism, whilst also enhancing its value to local people.
We will also support 4VI to strengthen their capacity on climate action in the region.
