New trustees (charity board members) required

(Including a potential Treasurer, and a potential Chair)

(Part time, non-remunerated)

The Travel Foundation is inviting applications for membership of its board of trustees, to replace current trustees due to retire during 2019.  Up to three vacancies will be recruited for during 2019, and we hope one of the new trustees will be a potential future Treasurer, and one a potential future Chair of the charity.

The board of trustees provides governance, direction and oversight for the Travel Foundation, which is managed by a CEO and executive team based in Bristol. Trustees provide an active contribution to the board’s decision-making, to ensure that the charity pursues its charitable objects effectively and makes best use of its resources.

The board meets four times a year, so trustee commitments include four days of meetings and the necessary additional time to analyse board papers, understand the organisation and its opportunities and challenges, and interact with the executive team as necessary (including one or more visits to Bristol per year).

We are looking for candidates with a real commitment to the Travel Foundation and to the principles of sustainable tourism; with strategic vision and good independent judgement; the ability to think creatively; willingness to speak your mind; an understanding and acceptance of the legal duties and responsibilities of trusteeship; and the ability to work effectively as part of a diverse team.

Expertise in sustainable tourism, international development, grant funding, and/or international institutions is sought and (for a potential Treasurer) an understanding of financial accounts and reporting, and (for a potential Chair) exceptional leadership skills and experience.
