We raise awareness of the issues through our ground breaking research, demonstrate what is possible through our lighthouse projects and support action by bringing organisations together.
Ground breaking research
We work with partners to explore the vital issues that others may find challenging to tackle, sparking debate and furthering knowledge. Our most recent research report, ‘Envisioning Tourism in 2030 and beyond‘ provided a positive vision of a growing visitor economy where greenhouse gas emissions are reduced to virtually zero. Look out for two new research reports coming soon, on climate justice in tourism and how to spread the benefits of tourism more widely.
Lighthouse projects
We have decades of experience identifying and implementing solutions to the complex challenges facing the tourism sector, from developing and marketing climate-friendly tourism offers to spreading the benefits of tourism by engaging and supporting small businesses. Read more on our project pages.
Collective action
Tourism is a complex industry with many stakeholders from both the public and private sector. We bring these different organisations together to create a shared vision of how tourism can be managed better for destinations and for the planet. For example:
- We co-created and co-wrote the Glasgow Declaration on Climate Action in Tourism, a UN-led initiative which aims to foster collaboration and share tools and resources to enable tourism organisations to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve resilience to climate risk.
- We were one of six NGOs to launch the Future of Tourism Coalition, which provides resources to support tourism organisations on climate action, destination stewardship, measuring tourism’s impacts and successes.
