To increase economic, social and cultural benefits to the Much Kaab honey co-operative and their families
To provide an incentive to support the conservation of the Melipona bee and the preservation of the Maya beekeeping cultural tradition
To provide a model of best practice for other communities, in relation to both beekeeping and business development
Why? Communities living in rural areas have few opportunities to earn a living from tourism. Linking their product to the tourism industry will help the cooperative to earn a living from tourism, and remain living in their home village.
We’ve been working with the cooperative to develop a new branding, that will launch at the end of 2016
The cooperative have received business support, training and advice, enabling them to continue to grow
In the summer of 2016, we worked with the cooperative to install phone and internet cables, to enable them to effectively manage their business
This project is spreading the benefits of tourism to a local enterprise, who are now able to earn a living from tourism. Tourism businesses in the area are also benefitting by offering a product unique to the Riviera Maya, something that their customers value.
