Extra Time in Kent

Following months of build-up, it’s that time of year we go on the road to support one of our favourite teams – the lovely folks at Holiday Extras.

In what has fast become one our most looked forward to annual fixtures, we were invited to Holiday Extras HQ during the height of World Cup fever as part of a themed day celebrating all that is green, sustainable and good.

During the first half, more than 40 Holiday Extras staff took part in two Travel Foundation ‘Sustainable Tourism Buzz Sessions’, giving them a chance to find out more about our work – so generously supported by their customers through donations at the time of booking – and to pick up tips on how they could set their own sustainability goals as responsible travellers.

Holiday Extras is a young, vibrant and, above all, fun company and a longstanding and enthusiastic partner of the Travel Foundation to boot. We’re always impressed by the friendliness and dynamism of the people, which makes the long trip from our home turf in Bristol all the more worthwhile.

At half time, everyone got the chance to get stuck in to a selection of locally-sourced vegetarian and vegan snacks which went down a treat. Kicking off the second half was the chance for staff to make their own fruit smoothies, in exchange for a bit of pedal power, with two colourful ‘smoothie bikes’ attracting the crowds in the Holiday Extras grounds.

Colleagues were also given the chance to buy reusable canvas shopping bags that celebrated our work with the Rastafari Indigenous Village in Montego Bay, Jamaica, to take part in an ethical raffle and to purchase reusable coffee cups, all to raise vital funds for the Travel Foundation.

Holiday Extras has really embraced the challenge and opportunity of being a sustainable business, from organising team beach cleans to phasing out single-use plastics, and we’re honoured to be part of their sustainability success story.

In added time we got to meet some more of the team who will be helping us in the coming months to make more of our web presence, applying their professional knowledge to support the Travel Foundation and our partnership.

It’s so fantastic to be able to tap into the skills of our partners like this, and we’re very excited to hear their recommendations. Holiday Extras is big on giving staff the chance to volunteer and innovate; another reason people here seem so happy.

Unfortunately, all too soon it was time for the final whistle and the start of a buoyant journey home. We already look forward to the replay…
