The Blue Wave project in Turkey was presented as an example of best practice to delegates at Global Green Destinations Days in Croatia on 8-12 October as part of the conference’s agenda on ‘Tourism to Support Nature & Biodiversity’. This annual event brings together leading sustainability experts in government, business and academia to discuss solutions and share best practice.
The presentation was delivered by one of the project’s stakeholders Professor Dr. Tuncay Kuleli (pictured right), Director of Bodrum Maritime Vocational School, an academy that offers services in Yacht Master Education, Coastal Zone Management and Marine Tourism in Turkey.
Blue Wave is a cross sector partnership of public, private and third sectors initiated by the Travel Foundation. The project aims to minimise the negative impacts of marine tourism activities and promote sustainable boating practices. So far over 150 boat operators have been trained and boating manuals, maps, guides and a sustainable products catalogue have been distributed.
Blue Wave partners are currently working on expanding the project and implementing activities in other coastal destinations in Turkey such as Marmaris and Bodrum.
