Founder
Jimmy Skinner One of the founders of Action for Conservation through Tourism (ACT- the charity that played a leading role in the development of The Travel Foundation), Jimmy is also a trustee of the New Economics Foundation, and the Organic Research Centre at Elm Farm. His company Sustraco (the Sustainable Transport Company) is promoting the development and introduction of low-cost trams, known as Ultra Light Rail.
Roger Heape, Chairman Roger spent over 30 years in the tour operating and airline leisure industry in a variety of high profile roles including Commercial Director Thomson Holidays, Managing Director Intasun Holidays and latterly Managing Director British Airways Holidays. Roger played a leading role in environmental initiatives and received the ITT award and the Observer editor’s award in recognition of his contribution to sustainable tourism. He is currently a member of the New Forest National Park Authority and a board member of the Tourism Society.
Ian Ailles
Ian has recently joined RCI GVN, part of Wyndham Worldwide, as Chief Operating and Finance Officer. Prior to that Ian had been at Thomas Cook since 1998 in a variety of roles. Ian sat on the board of Thomas Cook from 2001 until 2007, a period of significant transformation for Thomas Cook. In that time his roles included Managing Director and Chief Financial Officer. He has also had a number of international roles in his career including non-executive Director of Thomas Cook India. Ian is also the Chairman of the UK’s Federation of Tour Operators (FTO).
Tricia Barnett
Tricia has been Director of Tourism Concern for sixteen years. She has championed the development of awareness about the impacts of tourism on local people and their environments as well as the search for solutions such as Fair Trade in Tourism.
Dermot Blastland
On 3rd September 2007, Dermot Blastland became Managing Director – UK, Ireland & Canada, for TUI Travel PLC after the successful merger of TUI Tourism (incorporating Thomson Holidays) and First Choice Holidays PLC. Dermot is the Director responsible for Sustainable Development on the Group Management Board. He has previously held positions as Managing Director of the Mainstream Sector of First Choice Holidays PLC, Managing Director of First Choice Holidays and Flights, Ski, Lakes and Mountains and President of Signature Vacations - First Choice's Canadian Division. Prior to joining the company in February 1988, he was Commercial Director at Thomson and subsequently Managing Director of Portland Holidays.
John de Vial
John is Group Director of Quality and Safety, Corporate Social Responsibility and External Affairs at the Thomas Cook Group plc. He is also a Director of the Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA) and the Federation of Tour Operators (FTO). John joined Thomas Cook in 2007, following the merger with MyTravel Group plc, where he was Director of Consumer Affairs. He was previously Holiday Services Director at Thomson Holidays/TUI UK, Managing Director of European Quality Assurance Services and The European Consultancy Limited and Consumer Affairs Director at ILG/Air Europe. John first joined the travel industry in 1980.
Stephanie Draper
Stephanie is Deputy Director of Forum for the Future’s Business Program. Forum for the Future, the sustainable development charity, works in partnership with leading organisations to create a sustainable future. With over 10 years experience working with business on sustainable development and related areas, she leads Forum’s work on leadership, change, travel and tourism. Her focus is on finding practical, profitable and inspiring ways to make sustainable business a reality. Prior to joining the forum, Stephanie was head of CSR at the Work Foundation (formerly the Industrial Society) where she worked with a variety of organisations advising them on CSR strategy, stakeholder dialogue and social and sustainability auditing and reporting. Stephanie has written and presented extensively on sustainable development. She has an MSc in Conservation Biology and a BSc in Biochemistry and is a tutor on sustainable development at The University of Cambridge and a visiting lecturer at London Business School.
Duncan Fisher
Duncan was one of the founders of Action for Conservation through Tourism (ACT), which became the Travel Foundation. He has many years of experience in the fields of environment and development and has become an expert in establishing new charities, with expertise in charity management and Governance. He also has experience of board membership of a public body (the Equal Opportunities Commission) and of a private enterprise (Dad Info Ltd). Duncan is currently CEO of two small organisations, the Fatherhood Institute (a charity) and Dad Info Ltd (a commercial venture). He advises Government on family policy work directly with ministers and occasionally the Prime Minister. He lives in the Brecon Beacons and has two daughters, 7 and 11.
Fiona Jeffery
Fiona was born in Scotland in 1960 and graduated from Edinburgh University with a BA in French and Spanish and MA Hons in Italian before joining House Of Fraser where she specialised in international buying. Fiona joined the Marketing Department of Reed Exhibition Companies in 1986 and by 1988 she was a Group Marketing Manager responsible for the marketing activity surrounding 17 of Reed Exhibition Companies’. She then became Marketing Director in 1991.In 1992 she launched Arabian Travel Market in the Middle East and in December 1993, took over responsibility as Exhibition Director of World Travel Market as well as British Travel Trade Fair in 1996. In 2000 she was appointed Group Director for World Travel Market & British Travel Trade Fair and Marketing and Business Development Director for Reed Travel Exhibitions responsible for the groups global communications and strategic development. In 2005 she become Managing Director, World Travel Market, and was appointed chairman in July 2007.In 1998 she founded and is now Chairman of the international travel and tourism industry charity - Just a Drop, which aims to deliver clean water to over 1.1 billion people worldwide who have no access to water close to their homes. She also held the position of President of the International Travel Trade Fairs Association 2004/2005. Fiona created and launched WTM World Responsible Tourism Day in 2007 in association with the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO), which takes place on the 12th November 2008 and is a global tourism initiative to highlight the issues and contributions travel and tourism companies can, and should, make to managing tourism responsibly.
Noel Josephides
Noel is the founding partner and Managing Director of Sunvil Holidays, since 1973. He is a board member of AITO and the Chairman of AITO Trust as well as a board member of ABTA. Noel is the Chairman of AGTA (Association of Greek Cypriot Travel Agents and Tour Operators) and deputy chairman of ATOP (Association of Tour Operators to Portugal).
Jonathan Mitchell
Jonathan is the Tourism Programme leader at the Overseas Development Institute. He is a local and regional economic development specialist with a multi-sectoral focus on Southern Africa. Institutional analysis, socio-economic impact studies and financial analysis are also key research interests. He has worked for a range of multilateral and bilateral donor organisations in Africa.
Ian Reynolds
Ian is a former Chief Executive of the Association of British Travel Agents. He is currently Chairman of Wandsworth PCT, Citybond Holdings and the Family Holiday Association He is also a director of General Industries PLC and a trustee of St Mary's Hospital.
Dinah Nichols Dinah is a Crown Estate Commissioner, a non-executive Director of Pennon Group plc (a water and waste company) and Chair of the National Forest Company and Groundwork North London. She was formerly Director-General Environment in DEFRA (Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs), with responsibility for sustainable development and environment policy in the UK and internationally. She was the official head of the UK delegation to the 2002 World Summit on Sustainable Development, which gave worldwide endorsement to tripartite partnerships such as the Travel Foundation.

Hugh Somerville
Hugh retired in 2002 after 13 years as the Head of the Sustainable Business Unit, British Airways. Since then he has worked on a number of sustainability projects, mostly in the travel and tourism area. Hugh is active in Greener by Design, a Visiting Professor at the University of Surrey and a member of Camelot's Corporate responsibility panel. .
Derek Stevens Derek was Director and Chief Financial Officer of British Airways Plc until his retirement in July 2001 and until recently non-executive Director of Aviva plc (which includes Norwich Union and is a FTSE 100 company). He is non-executive Director of NATS Holdings Limited (provider of air traffic services), Chairman of The Airline Group Limited and Deputy Chair of Council of the Institute of Education, London University.
Mark Tanzer
Mark took over as Chief Executive of ABTA on1 September 2005. His background is in the private sector, where he has held senior positions in strategy and corporate finanace in a number of industry sectors. Immediately prior to joining ABTA, Mark was Group Startegy Director of Centrica plc, the parent company of Bristish Gas. Before that he was Strategy Director of the Automobile Association, which was acquired by Centrica in 2000. While with Centrica, Mark spent 18 months on secondment to the Home Office as Senior Director of the immigration and Nationality Directorate, where he was responsible for a wide-ranging programme of change and reform.

Sonia Davies
Sonia joined Thomson Holidays in 1998 as head of public relations, moving from PR agency BGB and Associates. In the following six years she undertook responsibility for all the public relations and internal communications for the company that became TUI UK, before leaving in October 2004. She is also involved in promoting the charity Earthwatch and the British Airways Tourism for Tomorrow awards.
