The Travel Foundation is proud to be a partner in ‘Reduce My Footprint’. 
This initiative helps travel businesses and their customers lighten the impact of travel on the climate and environment.  It offers information and advice on how to reduce carbon consumption, as well as opportunities to offset what cannot be reduced, along with care for the environment and people at tourism destinations. 
 
For our climate change work, including our participation in Reduce My Footprint, The Travel Foundation is partnering with the charity, The Converging World.  Click here for more information on our partnership with The Coverging World. Contributions coming to The Travel Foundation via Reduce My Footprint will support our work in the following way:
 
1. Renewable energy in the developing world:
 
Contributions are being invested in the building of wind turbines in southern India. Each of TCW's turbines averts the production of 70,000 tonnes of CO2 and generates £200,000 for sustainable development in some of India’s poorest communities.
 
The windfarm project is currently being registered through the UNFCCC’s Clean Development Mechanism, allowing us to offer Certified Emissions Reductions (CERs), in due course. 

2. Energy reduction in tourism destinations

Contributions are supporting initiatives to reduce the consumption of carbon by the tourism industry, its customers and suppliers.  These will include the support of local economies to reduce carbon output and manage sustainable tourism, for example, supporting the installation of solar energy for villages in the Maasai Mara.

Our energy reduction projects will be monitored to measure carbon reduction achieved, but we shall not claim these reductions as any form of offset.
