Some issues, like energy consumption, waste going to landfill and scarcity of fresh water are widespread and prevalent, even in the most popular holiday resorts of the Mediterranean.

Other environmental issues arising from tourism, such as the protection of endangered species, affect only certain destinations.

We develop overseas projects to demonstrate how the negative impact of tourism on the environment can be minimised.  You can read about these projects using the links on the right hand side.

How can you help the environment?

The Travel Foundation develops tools to help tourism businesses green their operations. All of our tools can be found in the green business tools section.

As well as helping the environmental, in many cases, taking action on sustainable tourism can benefit your bottom line.
