Gambia is good training farm

Farmer from GiG farm, The GambiaA demonstration farm was set up in 2006 in partnership with Concern Universal to increase the supply of fresh, local produce to the tourism industry. A training centre was constructed to instruct farmers in new crops and production techniques.

The farm was operational for five years, and during that time there were some impressive achievements...

Approximately 1000 farmers were trained, and 90% of the trainees were women.

Almost £175,000 has gone directly into the hands of Gambian farmers, by selling more than 500 tonnes of locally grown produce to hotels.

The range of produce grown has diversified, the quality of produce has increased and GiG created the first online ordering system in The Gambia!

The demonstration farm has now taken the next step by moving into a more natural community setting, working alongside the Siffoe community, Kafo, and is spreading the lessons learned to the wider community.

Because of its innovative entrepreneurial approach, GiG has won a number of international awards:
