The Travel Foundation launches new community tours programme in Thailand.The Travel Foundation has teamed up with the Thailand Community Based Tourism Institute (CBT-I) and supporting tour operators to pilot ten new community based tours in Thailand. Travel companies who are interested in taking part in the initiative can hear more at a meeting in London on eighth November.
The Travel Foundation asks hotel owners to take up Hotel Makeover Challenge and save up to 25% of energy costs and usage.The Travel Foundation is launching a campaign to encourage accommodation providers to be more sustainable.Up to 10,000 hotels across Spain, Turkey and Greece will be targeted with the campaign, which will offer owners information on how to save energy, source supplies locally and manage waste wisely.This draws on the FTO’s Supplier Sustainability Guidelines and an audit by the Foundation of three hotels against the FTO’s criteria.

Kate Humble urges UK Tour Operators to help endangered turtles.TV broadcaster Kate Humble has teamed up with the Travel Foundation and the Marine Conservation Society (MCS) to urge UK tour operator representatives to encourage turtle-friendly tourist behaviour at Mediterranean holiday destinations.

The Travel Foundation, First Choice and Thomas Cook show industry way to saving enough inflight drinks cans to build two airliners.The Travel Foundation announced today the results of an innovative project run over the winter season by First Choice Airways, Thomas Cook Airlines and AENA (Spanish Airports and Air Navigation services operator) to recycle aluminium drinks cans used on British holiday aircraft flying to Spain. If the procedures unveiled today were put in place on all UK flights to Spain, it is estimated that 14 million drinks cans could be recycled, equivalent to 140 tonnes of aluminium.

The Government must not undermine the travel industry's efforts on carbon emissions reduction or burden genuinely valuable projects with disproportionate regulatory costs, say industry representatives in a united response to the Government’s launch on Thursday of a consultation process on a “code of practice” for carbon offset schemes.

From January 2007 all MyTravel charter tour operator customers will be asked if they would like to make an opt out donation at the time of booking of 40p per person to the Travel Foundation to support sustainable tourism.
