Craft fayre in Dominican Republic

As part of our craft project in the Dominican Republic, a series of local craft and cultural exhibitions have been arranged.

Guests of all-inclusive resorts in the Romana-Bayahibe region will have a chance to sample and experience local foods, music, handicrafts, and agricultural products at the first craft and cultural exhibition on 8th December, 2011, at the Dream Casino.

The event provides a major step forward for Dominican artisans, who often face challenges in showing their work to guests at all-inclusive resorts.

The first event will be held  on Thursday 8th December, from 4pm to 10 p.m. in Plaza Montecarlo, next to the Dream Casino (formally Diamante Casino), and will become a weekly event thereafter.

The aim of our project in the Dominican Republic is to help local artisans make a better living from tourism by supplying crafts to tourism businesses. We're partnering with a local organisation, Resortful Arts, to run the project on the ground.

“Our goal was to create an enjoyable and also convenient way for guests to experience the culture of the country, while also providing artisans and other cultural businesses with an opportunity to interact with visitors,” said Karla Hostetler, Director of Resortful Arts.
