Forum Events in 2010
In response to your votes for forum topics held at our last meeting, we are running a series of forum meetings in 2010, entitled ‘Climate Change- Industry Change’.
If you would like to register for one, two or all three of these meetings please email forum@thetravelfoundation.org.uk to reserve your place. The events are free to attend for Forum members.
The meetings will each cover a different theme relating to climate change and its implications for the travel industry. The details are as follows:
1. Climate Change and its impact on destinations. How can the Travel Industry address the issue of transport?
Dr. Murray C. Simpson, Senior Research Associate at Oxford University Centre for the Environment will set the scene for the three forum events of the year by presenting the latest findings on how climate change is impacting on destinations.
With transport becoming an increasing concern for the travel industry, we want to take look at the options available, providing an opportunity for forum members to gather information and perspectives. Hugo Kimber of the Carbon Consultancy will be presenting on the ‘greenest’ ways to fly and Mark Smith, the Man in Seat 61, will be assessing rail travel both as a means to getting to a destination and within a destination.
16th March, 2 – 5pm.
Venue: K & L Gates, 110 Cannon Street, London EC4N 6AR.
2. Water & Energy Conservation. How can the Travel Industry make an impact?
The Travel Foundation has been working on a number of projects to reduce consumption of water and energy by hotels. This meeting will focus on the impacts made so far and how the Travel Industry can play their part in helping hotels they work with to reduce their water and energy consumption. It will also cover how companies can make improvements in their UK offices. Details of speakers to follow.
20th May, 2 – 5pm. London, venue TBC.
3. Product - What will a successful tourism business look like in the future?
If destinations are to survive intact for future generations then the Travel Industry needs to act now to assess the impact their products are making and whether this can be sustainable. This meeting will draw on case studies from organisations already making headway; practical tools to help with assessment and a vision for the future. Details of speakers to follow.
21st October, 2 – 5pm. London, venue TBC.
Whilst addressing the key issues in the industry at present, we hope that you will leave each event with some practical information that can be applied to your business. Each session will involve engaging speakers, followed by an opportunity to have your say. All of your opinions are valued, and we welcome debate!
