Please let us know if you have any further questions you would like us to answer.

What type of projects does The Travel Foundation work on?
Typical projects could range from helping farmers supply fresh, local produce to resort hotels rather than importing from overseas, working with local groups to protect endangered wildlife, such as turtles and advising hotels on better waste management to keep the beach and sea clean and beautiful for visitors.

Will The Travel Foundation be able to run projects at all destinations?
The Travel Foundation aims to run trial projects at specific destinations important for UK holiday-makers, in partnership with local organisations and communities. The results from such projects will be fed in to practical tools and guidelines for the whole travel industry to initiate similar projects wherever there is a need. This will ensure that the work of the Foundation will achieve maximum impact.

How can my donation help local families in need?
Your support of The Travel Foundation can help to spread the benefit that your visit already brings. For example, helping local farmers to supply fresh, local produce to resort hotels rather than produce being imported from overseas, creating new excursions that take you to areas that did not previously benefit from tourism and working with the industry to create better job opportunities for local people, for example, in guiding or hotel management.

How can my donation help to protect the natural environment?
Your support of The Travel Foundation will enable us to develop practical solutions to help destinations protect and enhance their local environment. For example, with better waste management, by recycling, reducing water or energy consumption and protecting areas of natural beauty and endangered wildlife.

Why is The Travel Foundation working in partnership with the travel industry?
The UK industry has strong links with destinations and is the best partner to work with to effect the greatest change. For example, the travel companies can put in place clear guidelines that their suppliers must adhere to in respect to, for example, waste management or the siting of new hotels.
Why is The Travel Foundation working with other organisations such as conservation and campaign groups and governments?

The other organisations we are working with between them bring technical expertise, important contacts and political influence to make policy changes to create more positive tourism.

How is the travel industry supporting the work of The Travel Foundation?
Companies are supporting the work of The Travel Foundation in different ways. Either with a one-off or regular corporate donation, or by setting up funding schemes to help the charity raise money. All of the companies involved are committed to improving the tourism experience for customers, protecting and enhancing destinations and improving the well-being of local people.

Why do we need to do anything?
Because international tourism continues to grow dramatically and this is putting more and more pressure on the destinations we love to visit. We must start to take cohesive action now in order to protect the beautiful places in the world for ourselves – and for future generations.

What will be different next time I take a holiday?
You may not notice a difference immediately. Some of the changes will take time to be fully implemented and others may not be immediately obvious to visitors (you may not always see the benefit your visit gives to local families in need, but we will share peoples’ stories on our website!). If our projects offer new activities for visitors, we will let you know on our website. If you go to Cyprus, for example, you can already enjoy the ‘SAVE’ excursion which is helping to revitalise the mountain villages.
