Manual and checklist for creating & auditing sustainable excursions

This manual provides a step by step guide to setting up and running a sustainable village-based excursion, drawing from the experience of the Cyprus Travel Foundation project 2002 – 2004 where four SAVE - Support Abandoned Villages and their Environment excursions were created, and operated by First Choice, My Travel, Thomas Cook and TUI-UK. This manual can be used by anyone who is interested in setting up a sustainable excursion e.g. tour operators, ground agents, NGOs (non-government organizations), tourism authorities, etc. and explains how to:

set up a multi-stakeholder group

structure and audit an excursion

operate and market the excursion
monitor and evaluate the impacts of the excursion

The two page ‘sustainable excursion checklist’ supplement can also be used on its own as an auditing tool.
