Like all destinations, Croatia has suffered from the effects of the pandemic. However, its magnificent coastline will ensure it remains a favourite with tourists.
In recent years, hotel developments have brought a new, higher-end and Western European type of customer to some areas for the first time. This brings challenges for local business owners, who are struggling to adapt and compete.
What we’re doing
Currently we are working on a project funded by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) which supports hotels to provide better training and development opportunities for employees, giving them the best possible start in their tourism careers. We are also strengthening equal opportunities policies and making more use made of local supply chains.
In this way, a country’s hotels will improve the spread of economic benefits that tourism provides, ensuring more income and opportunities reach local communities. Read more about Inclusive Tourism in Croatia and Montenegro.
Our past work in Croatia, with TUI Care Foundation, has aimed to demonstrate that resort development can take place in a collaborative way so it maximises the value of tourism for local communities. Read more about this case study.
