Eligibility criteria

Using the options in the menu below, you can navigate your way through the information regarding submitting an application.

Eligibility: Private organisations, individuals, NGOs or partnerships
Projects must meet all criteria below:
Destination-focused projects must be in a region where there is significant UK travel company presence i.e. the region must receive ‘package’ holiday or flight-only visitors from at least one major UK company e.g. First Choice/TUI, Thomas Cook/MyTravel, or must receive a significant volume of visitors from at least three smaller, or special-interest UK tour operators.
For more information on the major UK tour operators click here to see FTO members. For information on other UK tour operators and where they operate click to go to the abta or aito webistes.
Please note: for destinations where the Travel Foundation has an ongoing programme, currently Mexico, Tobago, Dominican Republic, Sri Lanka, The Gambia, Cyprus and Egypt, Expressions of Interest will be forwarded to the Committees in destination for consideration. Applications will however still need to meet all of the criteria.
Projects must provide an opportunity to engage the UK outbound tourism industry or their suppliers in development and implementation. For example, a new excursion or product for UK customers, a training course for suppliers. Partnerships with the UK industry do not need to be already established (*see below for assistance in establishing industry partnerships) but there must be a good potential for engagement.
Projects should be directed towards the core aims and strategic goals of the Travel Foundation i.e they must address at least one of the following:
• Increasing local economic benefits
e.g. training/skills development to increase income-generating potential or increasing availability of local products & services by creating links between producers and suppliers
• Protecting/conserving the environment
e.g. developing a training DVD for resort managers to help them communicate messages on turtle conservation to their customers
• Promoting local culture and heritage
e.g. setting up a producers’ fair for hoteliers as part of a ‘buy local’ campaign
Projects should engage local stakeholders at the destination (overseas projects only) i.e. projects must involve consultation and engagement with relevant stakeholders in the development and implementation process.
Projects should have a specific objective and deliver practical, measurable outputs. Monitoring and evaluation measures need to be built in so that the impact of the project can be clearly demonstrated.
Projects should have a clear strategy for long-term, ongoing management including financial, and where appropriate have the potential to be self-sustaining beyond Travel Foundation funding.
