In November 2007 the Travel Foundation began funding a new community tours project in Brazil with Estrela.
Estrela
Estrela (a British & Brazilian registered charity) promotes inclusive development & intercultural understanding between the two regions.
 They have been introducing visitors (mostly British) to community culture and lifestyle in Bahia for many years, and are now formalising this experience into sustainable community tours, in partnership with local youth, community & arts initiatives. Community Tours
The Travel Foundation are supporting the development of five community tours working with Afro-Brazilian women and youth groups who organise traditional cultural activities for tourists to watch and/ or participate in. All communities are within close distance from Salvador the main tourist destination which now receives direct charter flights from the UK. The aim is for visitors and tourists to gain a better understanding of daily community life in Salvador, meeting its people, enjoying its riches & culture and understanding its reality.
