Gecko Villa was etablished in one of the poorest areas of Thailand, the Northeast, through the cooperation of a travel professional and local villagers. They aim to maximise the economic benefit which responsible tourism can bring directly to the local community, whilst protecting the environment and focussing on a positive social impact. All employment is sourced locally, as are all services and products, and all profits are retained by the local community. The operations has permitted small, but growing changes - with reforestation, the promotion of organic produce and local traditions, the financing of education and the reduction of economic migration and family dispersal.

Green Care Shisong - Njodzeka Gilbert has worked for Green Care Shisong in the Bui Division, Cameroon, as a voluntary staff member for over seven years. In this time he has occupied a variety of positions including Treasurer, and Program and Public Relations Manager. Green Care Shisong is an organisation which strives to promote effective Environmental Management and Sustainable Agriculture schemes. Major projects which have been undertaken include: the creation of an all season Tree Nursery; the promotion of Bee Farming, Conservational Agriculture programs; Rapid Yam Set Multiplication and Cane Rat domestication. In addition efforts are now underway to try and develop community forestry practices, promote bird watching and exploit eco-tourism potentials within the local community. All these schemes are being devised in partnership with organisations such as the BTCV (British Trust for Conservation Volunteers) and the American Peace Corps, who assist along with local volunteers and many others. Njodzeka Gilbert has a huge passion for the work of his organisation and remains very open to any contributions which could help him improve his practices and results.
Guerba have been operating adventure tours for 25 years, and they like to believe that they have done so in a way that has minimised their impact on the habitats and ecosystems they visit, whilst improving the lives of the people they interact with. They always aim to spend money as locally as possible, and to work with local people in preference to outsiders.
